Where to Run in San Diego

Where to Run in San Diego: Tecolote Canyon

  • Difficulty: 6…with a Level-10 hill
  • Destination: 4
  • Distance: 6.7 mile out-and-back

No need to venture into the hills to find this trail run! Nestled just behind the beautifully renowned University of San Diego, this out and back trail takes you on a moderately flat route into the canyon. Pick your poison when it comes to difficulty level here, and try out the three peaks that give your elevation tracker three perfect triangles. Straight up and straight down will give you that burn-out, if you step up to the challenge. Numerous creek crossings give you that trail-running fix; high mileage not required. Portions of trail are heavily shaded with wildflower sightings if you’re lucky. Various pathways available if you have an eye keen for a fresh path.

  • Restrooms and large parking lot located at the west entrance in Tecolote Community Park.
