COVID-19 FAQ - 2020 CRAFT CLASSIC HALF MARATHON & 5K
San Diego Craft Classic Runners - We wanted to share an update on the current state of the 2020 Craft Classic Half Marathon & 5K.
Our team at San Diego Running Co. has been working closely with the City of San Diego to POSTPONE the 2020 event. We will be moving the date of the race to Sunday, August 30, 2020. We still want to host you for your half marathon or 5K but while doing so in a safe environment. This postponement will give us more time to work with the city to do just that.
We know you have questions regarding the new date so we prepared some answers to those anticipated questions. Please take a few minutes to review those answers below. If you have additional questions for us, please let us know. You can reach us through our contact form here.
Q) Why did you pick Sunday, August 30th?
A) We worked closely with the City of San Diego, San Diego Police Department, Road Runner Sports, Green Flash Brewery and other impacted municipality organizations to determine a summer time date that would be available to permit the event, all while giving us as much time as possible to prepare the event safely.
Q) Do I need to re-register for the new date?
A) No you will not need to re-register. Your entry is automatically transferred to the new date.
Q) How can you be sure that coronavirus will be contained by this date?
A) Our participants' health and safety are our first priority. Like all of us, we cannot say whether we ultimately will be able to hold the event on August 30th. But we wanted to take these 7 weeks to allow more time for our community to hopefully overcome this pandemic. If we determine we cannot host the event on August 30th, you can see further below the various options.
Q) What if the event still can't be held on August 30th?
A) If the City of San Diego and the State of California determine we cannot have the event, we'll be extending the following options. You'll be able to select one:
OPTION 1 - We'd love for you to still join us virtually as well as in 2021! If you select this option, we will mail you all your participant goods that includes the shirt or tank top, bib and finisher's medal for the 2020 event. Then we'll be deferring your registration to the 2021 Craft Classic event, anticipated to be held on July 11, 2021. Our small organization of 3 full time people are working hard to keep the "lights on" and to continue to host events in the future. Choosing this option is a fantastic way to support our mission! Thank You!
OPTION 2 - You can simply join us in 2021 and get a small discount for not being mailed your 2020 participant goods. We'll be able to provide you a partial refund of $15 for your 2020 registration and then we'll be moving your registration for free to the 2021 event, anticipated for July 11, 2021. The partial refund covers the participant goods and shipping for the 2020 event. Just as with the option above, this is a great way to support our organization so we can continue to provide events, thank you!
NOTE: There will be a cut-off date (TBD) to select this option so that we do not order 2020 participant goods for you.
OPTION 3 - We know times are tough financially and you don't know your future schedule. So we will be offering full refunds and we hope you can join us again for a future event once the time is right.
ONLY participants registered by Friday, April 17th are eligible for a full refund in the event the race is cancelled.
NOTE: We will only be offering refunds if and when the event can no longer be held on the 2020 date.
Q) What if the event IS hosted on August 30th but you can't join or do not feel comfortable joining?
A) OPTION 1 - We understand if the new date does not work for you or if you just do not feel comfortable joining an event yet given the current situation. For those participants, we will be deferring you for free to the 2021 event, anticipated to be hosted on July 11, 2021
OPTION 2 - We would love for you still to join us virtually! By joining virtually, you will receive all your participant goods for 2020. Additionally you will receive a 25% discount on the early bird price for the 2021 event.
