O’side Turkey Trot

We are so excited to host you for the 18th Annual O’side Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving! We want you to be ready for you to run, trot or walk so read all the important event details below, including schedule, parking and more! 👇

SCHEDULE

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 2024

11:00 am – 6:00 pm – Packet Pick-Up (Shirt & Bib)…..Jr. Seau Beach Community Center, 300 The Strand N, Oceanside, CA 92054

• • If you purchased Mail My Packet, you do not need to come to the packet pick-up.
  • You can pick-up for someone else as long as you have a photo of their ID (e.g. they text you a picture of their ID) or their confirmation QR code.
  • You can pick-up race morning starting at 6:00a but lines will be very long. So we STRONGLY recommend coming on Wednesday. See below for Thursday pick-up information.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2024

6:00 am – Registration & Packet Pick Up, Oceanside Civic Center Parking Structure, 330 N. Coast Hwy, Oceanside, CA 92054

• • You will only pick up your bib number at the Civic Center on race morning. Shirts will be available at the Jr. Seau Beach Community Center, close to the finish line.

6:45 am – Early Wave 5K Run Start, Civic Center
7:00 am – Post Race Expo & Shirt Pick-Up, Oceanside Pier Amphitheater/Front of Beach Community Center
8:05 am – Main Wave 5K Run (Wave Start), Civic Center

• • We will have pace signs in the starting corral so please start with the pace you feel you will run, trot or walk.

PARKING/SHUTTLES/DROP-OFF

We have numerous parking options:

• Parking is FREE in all city lots on Thanksgiving morning until 11:00am
• The course is subject to change and/or closure due to emergency at OPD/OFD discretion
• Do Not Park at Walmart or Harbor Freight lots on Mission Ave. You will be towed!

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

There will be numerous road closures the morning of the race. So visit the DRIVING DIRECTIONS page (scroll partway down the page) to read more on how to drive to the race, as it depends on your arrival time and the direction you are driving from.

DROP-OFF LOCATIONS

If you prefer to be dropped off, please utilize these free drop off locations:
1. Civic Center Dr & North Horne St.
2. North Freeman St. and Seagaze Dr.

FREE SHUTTLE PARKING

We will be running a complimentary parking shuttle service from the below listed locations from 5:30am – 11:00am.

The pick up location is Barnes St./Mission Ave. The bus will drop participants at the Start Line at Ditmar/Civic Center Dr. The shuttles will start at 5:30am and will run until 11:00am. You can find shuttle parking at:

ADA PARKING

Handicapped spaces are available in lots on Pier View Way or Seagaze Dr., west of Coast Hwy that have existing handicapped spaces. Additional handicap spots are available via Myers St. lots adjacent to Mission, Pier View, and Seagaze west of Coast Hwy. Take Oceanside Blvd to Myers Street and drive North to lots.

DOG POLICY

We ask you leave your dogs at home. Unfortunately with so many people running in very narrow areas, it is not safe to have dogs during the 5K or Kids Run.

STROLLER POLICY

We are stroller friendly!! If you plan to walk or go at a leisurely pace, we ask you to start with the strollers and walkers in the back of each race.

All awards will be distributed shortly after each race. We will have awards for both Local (Oceanside residents) and Open (non-residents):

• Early Wave 5K – Top 3 in Each Category (Male and Female):
  • Top 3 Overall Male & Female (local and open)
  • 12 & Under, 13-17, 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 25-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+ (local and open)
• Main Wave 5K – Top 3 in Each Category (Male and Female):
  • Top 3 Overall Male & Female (local and open)
  • 12 & Under, 13-17, 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 25-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+ (local and open)
• Kids 1/5 Mile – Top 3 in Each Category:
  • 4 & Under, 5 – 6 years old

Awards must be picked up from the awards tent post-race. You must pick up your award after the race to receive it!

COSTUME AND TEAM AWARDS

We will also be awarding Oceanside restaurant gift certificates for largest teams and best costume! The top 5 largest teams and the top 3 best costumes will receive gift certificates.

FREE RACE PHOTOS

Race photos will be taken along the course and at the finish provided by 3PIXstudiosfor FREE! You will receive an e-mail with a link to these photos within 2-3 days after the event. These complimentary photos will be free for you to download and share! Be sure to tag @sdrunningco and #osideturkeytrot.

How does it work to receive your photos? When participating, wear your race bib on the FRONT of your shirt/body and have it clearly visible to the photography team on course. We will upload the thousands of photos to Race Roster (our registration provider) where it will automatically read your bib number in the photo (if it’s visible). Following the event we’ll send you a link to search for photos that are a match for your number!

GEAR CHECK

There will be a gear check available near the start line at the Civic Center Plaza near the water fountains. Please bring your own reusable bag. We will attach your gear check tag that is attached to your bib. All gear MUST be picked up by 11:00a on Thanksgiving.

RESTROOMS AND AID STATIONS

We will have portable restrooms located at the start and finish line, as well as water and bathrooms on course near the halfway point.

MEDICAL

If you experience a medical problem on course, go to the nearest aid station where a medical representative will be called to assist you. If you are unable to finish the race, shuttle transportation to the finish can also be called from every aid station. Additionally, a SAG vehicle will be picking up participants who need transport to the finish. Additional medical staff equipped with first aid and comfort supplies will be located at the final aid stations to provide support as well.

WEATHER

The forecast looks great for event day! We are anticipating a partly cloudy morning with cooler temperatures in the high 40s during the 6:45a 5K and in the high 50s for the 8:05a 5K.

• The Hwy 76/Coast Hwy exit from 1-5 southbound will remain OPEN during the duration of the event.
• The Oceanside Harbor Area will no longer be impacted by the event.

The O’side Turkey Trot is scheduled for Thanksgiving morning, and will require some roads to be closed, which may alter your normal plans! Please see below for a detour map and suggested routes for each area on Thanksgiving morning!   In addition, we have partnered with Waze and you can view the closures here and if you have the app on your phone, Waze will provide alternate directions around the closures.   Thank you for your support!

Volunteering at the O’Side Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning is a wonderful way to give back to the community and start the holiday with a sense of gratitude. Whether you’re helping with check-in, handing out water to runners, or cheering on participants as a course marshal, your contribution will make the event a memorable experience for all. What’s the difference between the Early Wave 5K at 6:45 AM or Main Wave 5K at 8:05 AM?

• Only difference is the start time! Join the 5K that’s most convenient for you!

Are there age group awards for both 5Ks?

• Yes! They will each have their own age group awards.
  • Early Wave 5K – Top 3 in Each Category (Male and Female; Local and Open):
    • Top 3 Overall, 12 & Under, 13-17, 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 25-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+
  • Main Wave 5K – Top 3 in Each Category (Male and Female; Local and Open):
    • Top 3 Overall, 12 & Under, 13-17, 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 25-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+

Is there still a 5 Mile Option?

• There are now two 5K options instead of the 5 Mile and the 5K. The 5 Mile route had a challenging road closure that created a number of safety concerns for our runners and the new residential communities along the route. But we are excited to start a new tradition with the two 5K options!

What’s included in my registration?

• All paid participants will receive an entry to the distance of their choice, a finisher shirt, a medal, bib number with timing, virtual coupons, and the opportunity to post your finisher time and personal photos of your trot.

Can I run with a dog?

• NO, we ask that you leave your four-legged friends at home during the Trot!

Can I walk?

• Absolutely! We will ask the walkers to start toward the back of each 5K. For the Early Wave 5K, we anticipate walkers starting at 7:00 AM. For the Main Wave 5K, we anticipate walkers starting at 8:30 AM.

Can I run with a stroller?

• Yes but we ask that you start in the final 2 waves as the road and pathways become narrow to the end of the run. We thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Will there be a Team Competition?

• Yes! We will give $100 gift certificates to the top 5 largest teams over 20 members.

Do you offer any discounts?

• We currently offer our multi-registration discount for groups of 3 or more. Because 10% of your entry goes towards one of our 96 charities, we don’t offer any other discounts. As a reminder, your entry fee includes a t-shirt, medal and timing!
• Are you active military? Use code MILITARY10 for 10% off!

How do I get my shirt and medal?

• Beat the race day rush and pick up your materials in advance of the race! All registered participants will receive a bib, t-shirt, and goodie bag. If you can’t make it to any of the Expo days, don’t fret; you’re welcome to send a friend or family member to Expo to pick up your race day necessities – as long as they come armed with a copy of everyone’s ID and waiver. Dates & Times:
  • Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2024 – 11:00 am to 6:00 pm Junior Seau Beach Community Center, 300 N. The Strand, Oceanside
  • Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024 – 6:00 am to 9:00 am (Inside the Civic Center Parking Lot.)

Can my friend or family member pick up my bib?

• Yes, they just need to bring a picture of your ID (on phone is OK).

Can I transfer my registration to another person or defer to a future San Diego Running Co. event?

• Transfers – Participant to Participant: Transfers are available on each event’s registration site. Simply select the “Transfer” button located on the right side of the event’s Race Roster registration page and follow the prompts. A $15 transfer fee applies. The transfer window expires one week prior to the event date.
• Transfers – Changing Sub-Events: Sub-event transfers are available on each event’s registration site. Simply select the “Transfer” button located on the right side of the home page and follow the prompts. Refunds will not be applied for difference in sub-event pricing. The transfer window expires one week prior to the event date.
• Deferrals: Participants are extended a one-time deferral option to either the following year’s event or another SDRC equivalent event. Deferral requests must be made one week prior to the event date. A $15 deferral fee applies. Email us at info@sandiegorunningco.com with your deferral request.
• Deadline: All transfer and deferral requests must be received by one week prior to the event. There are no transfers/deferrals within one week of the event.
